Brussels, 21 November 2011 - Mobistar is today announcing a new MVNO agreement with Colruyt, the Belgian market leader in retail. Via the Mobistar network, Colruyt is putting a prepaid card on the market, with which customers only pay for what they use. This partnership will enable Mobistar to expand its market share in the prepaid cards segment.

Mobistar is moving forward with its successful partnerships strategy. The MVNO (Mobile Virtual Network Operator) agreement concluded between Mobistar and Colruyt combines the strengths of the two players. Colruyt can rely on Mobistar’s mobile broadband network (99.7 % coverage of the population in 2G/EDGE, and 95.2 % in 3G/HSPA), infrastructure and experience. Thanks to this agreement in the retail sector, Mobistar will be able to conquer new segments and thus expand its market share in the highly competitive prepaid cards market.

“The MVNO agreement with Colruyt fits perfectly into Mobistar´s strategy of reaching particular segments via specialised, complementary partners, so as to guarantee the best approach and optimal service provision in new markets” says Olivier Ysewijn, Chief Strategy Officer of Mobistar. Colruyt is Mobistar´s 5th MVNO partner since its network was opened to MVNO’s in 2006. Mobistar offers its partners technical solutions that are adapted to their needs, and it is therefore often the preferred operator. The MVNO contract with Colruyt offers room for further growth.

“Colruyt Mobile is a simple and transparent product for calling, text messaging and surfing, and brings a refreshing view on telecom” says Danny Jenquin, division manager non-food of Colruyt. “Today, mobile telephony has become a basic need for our customers. The products which are on the market today, with free minutes and messages etc., often don’t correspond to the real usage of a GSM-customer. That’s why Colruyt wants to offer its customers a transparent product with low tariffs, which will allow them to know exactly what they can expect.”
