Back to news index

Brussels, 15 March 2006 - Today Mobistar launches Bank Balance, a service developed in partnership with Banksys that will allow users to securely consult their bank balance via their mobiles. In line with its values of simplicity, reliability and relevance, Mobistar is developing mobile banking services to respond to its customers' needs.

According to an IPSOS survey, almost 67% of users of new technologies would be interested in the possibility of using their mobile phone for Self-Banking transactions. The most common reasons making mobile payment attractive for consumers are the speed, the ease and the limited access to banks.

In partnership with Banksys, Mobistar is the first operator on the market to launch mobile payment services, Bank Balance being the latest addition to the range. With Bank Balance, users can check their current account before making a payment. All Mobistar prepaid and postpaid customers who have a SIM card featuring the m-banxafe logo and who have activated the service will be able to use Bank Balance.

How does it work? Users simply need to type in a code to receive their account balance via SMS. Depending on their language selection, the codes are #191# (French), #192# (Dutch) or #193# (English), the same code applying to all banks. This service is completely secure thanks to the m-banxafe application. At the touch of only a few buttons, Bank Balance therefore allows users to consult the balance of a current account via mobile phone for 0.25 € .

Attentive as always to the needs of the customers, and in its quest to provide simple, reliable and relevant services Mobistar once again demonstrates its forerunner position in the field of mobile payment.. Hot on the heels of the mobile recharging of prepaid cards, Bank Balance is the second m-banxafe application, and the first step toward the development of mobile payment, as the company works towards offering users the possibility of paying for purchases using their mobiles phone.
